Hi, I'm Patience!

My story is kind of a cliché: As a little girl, I always saw myself in a white coat. The only twist is that in my first year in college I started reading scientific papers and went on to start a print newsletter because I wanted everyone to know about the cool stuff scientists were discovering about our world.

It's amazing that we can decipher what whales are saying to each other, but even more so, I'm fascinated by the lives of the microscopic organisms within their hosts, how environmental pollutants can rework our bodies, and the somewhat distant third is what actually goes on in the brain. I cover these topics in addition to other topics in life science.

I have published news and features stories in The Scientist, Knowable Magazine, BioSpace, Live Science, SciDev, and others. Recently, I started documenting the works of African scientists in the form of a newsletter. If you're into that, please subscribe using the box below to receive weekly highlights of the latest scientific advancement coming out of Africa.

Outside work, I crochet. I like to think that I can design so I started making cute amigurumis which you might never get to see (sorry), but trust me, they're absolutely adorable. Still, follow me on Instagram @pat_asanga. (I just might change my mind about showing them to you.)
